The fire prevention team has organized local participation in the EDITH program (Exit Drills In The Home). Local media attention has been brought to this activity.
Counseling sessions are also provided for juvenile fire starters. This is part of the rehabilitation program for those children that have been involved in prior incidents.
The Department has provided free smoke detectors to needy families in the area and has even assisted with the installation of the units.
Fire extinguisher training for local citizens is provided at various times during the year. Special drills and staff training for the local nursing homes, senior citizens complex and facility for handicapped adults are held annually.
The Fire Department presents fire prevention programs at the following activities: West's Shurfine Fall Harvest Days, the Hemlock Fair, and Livonia Community Days.
Members of the Fire Department with the assistance of the Explorers have brought "Freddie the Fire Truck" to many varied audiences in and around our fire district.
